Shark Week – 10 Upcoming Shark Attack Horror Movies!

Discovery’s annual “Shark Week” is now officially underway, and the horror genre is getting in on the feeding frenzy with the at-home premiere of Sean Byrne’s Dangerous Animals today.

One of Bloody Disgusting’s 10 best horror movies released in the first half of 2025, Dangerous Animals is now available for Digital purchase for $24.99 or at-home rental for $19.99.

It’s the only new shark attack movie that’s actually being released during “Shark Week” this year, but many more shark-themed horror movies are swimming our way very soon.

Here are 10 upcoming shark horror movies to keep an eye out for!


Deep Water

Renny Harlin (Deep Blue Sea) returns to shark infested waters with Deep Water, an action thriller that will receive a wide theatrical release later this year from Magenta Light Studios.

The film follows an eclectic group of international passengers whose plane, en route from L.A. to Shanghai, is forced to make an emergency landing in shark-infested waters.

The terrified group is forced to work together and overcome their differences if they hope to escape their sinking plane and the frenzy of sharks drawn to the wreckage.

Aaron Eckhart and Ben Kingsley star with Molly Wright (The Best Christmas Pageant Ever), Angus Sampson (Insidious), Kelly Gale (Plane), and Li Wenhan from K-Pop group UNIQ.


Breathe Deep

Late Night with the Devil breakout Ingrid Torelli, “The Haunting of Hill House” star Michiel Huisman, and TikTok influencer Avani Gregg will star in Breathe Deep.

The film is described as a survival thriller set in the world of social media… with sharks.

“13 years after witnessing her father’s death by a shark in the Devil’s Triangle, exploration influencer Addy Frost returns to the fateful site wearing a replica of his vintage diving suit, only to face a deadly battle against a great white shark, a mysterious killer, and her own fears.”

Principal photography takes place this summer on the Mediterranean Sea with James Kermack (Knuckledust) directing from a script he co-wrote with G.D. Wright.


Under Paris 2

‘Under Paris’ (2024)

Netflix had a hit on their hands last year with the French creature feature Under Paris, and director Xavier Gens and star Bérénice Bejo will both be back in sequel Under Paris 2.

Under Paris broke records as one of the most watched non-English language films on Netflix with more than 100 million views, and the ending offered an intriguing hook for continuation.

Bejo’s grieving activist character will return, alongside Nassim Lyes (“Mayhem!”) as the empathetic cop who survived the first film. Production kicks off late this year or early 2026.

The Bay

Francesca Eastwood (M.F.A., Clawfoot) will star in The Bay, which will notably feature an animatronic shark being created by SFX and animatronics company Bischoff’s.

In the film, “Emma (Eastwood) and Lani (Dani Oliveros) head to Thailand, where they are invited on an eco-boat tour to visit a remote shark sanctuary bay – an awe-inspiring lagoon where imposing, steep-sided rock formations called ‘karsts’ rise from the water line – with the hope of seeing the magnificent tiger sharks who have made the secluded spot their home.”

“In the hands of their captain, Mandal (Alexander Wraith), and his rough and ready boatman Ruhan (Tai’mua), the young women are entranced by the beauty of this secret paradise,” the official synopsis further details the project being directed by Phil Volken. “When a giant female shark, nicknamed Sheena, gets tangled in the bait chain while ramming the motor in an attempt to escape, the two friends end up much closer to nature than they bargained for.

“Isolated, hemmed in by the imposing landscape, and now fast sinking, with space for only one person on their life-raft, the group must together call on all their resources to survive.”


The Ascent

Adam Green’s ‘Frozen’

The director of horror films including the Hatchet franchise, Digging Up the Marrow, and the chilly survival nightmare Frozen (2010), Adam Green is set to direct his first feature in eight years with The Ascent, being described as a survival thriller… with sharks!

“The picture follows a group of friends who arrive in Europe for a glamorous but daring destination wedding. The fun and games turn into a nightmare when they find themselves precariously suspended above shark infested waters and in a battle for survival.”

The Ascent is the first project on a new international sales slate from the production banner Simple House Films, run by Addam Bramich, Ryan Hamilton and Volodymyr Artemenko.


The Black Demon: Atlantis

From Rambo: Last Blood director Adrian Grünberg, The Black Demon was released in 2023, and the sequel was announced early this year. It’s titled The Black Demon: Atlantis.

Variety details, “The sequel follows undercover DEA agent Jerry Simms (Kesy) who teams up with his cellmate, Chato, in a maximum-security prison stranded in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, to dismantle a massive drug operation run by the notorious crime boss Diego Nunez.

“Their mission becomes one of survival when the legendary creature, The Black Demon, tears through the prison, which sits atop a decaying plant polluting the ocean. In a desperate move to protect his empire, Diego unleashes his own giant sea predators to take down the beast. What follows is an epic clash of monsters, where only the strongest will prevail.”

Jack Kesy (Hellboy: The Crooked Man), Julio Cesar Cedillo (The Harder They Fall) and Kate Del Castillo (Trap House) will star, with Ben Hernandez Bray directing.


Shiver

Violent Night 2 release date

‘Violent Night’

Originally titled Beneath the Storm, Norwegian filmmaker Tommy Wirkola’s (Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, Dead SnowViolent Night) shark attack movie is now titled Shiver.

Shiver will be unleashed in theaters oJuly 3, 2026.

Phoebe Dynevor (Fair Play), Whitney Peak (Hocus Pocus 2and Djimon Hounsou (A Quiet Place: Part II) star in Shiverproduced by Adam McKay and Kevin Messick.

The Shallows

Almost ten years after the release of The Shallows starring Blake Lively, a a Chinese remake is swimming our way. From director Banchang Xia, it’s also titled The Shallows.

The remake of the 2016 American horror movie tells “the story of a girl who loves extreme sports. When she comes to the beach alone to surf, she’s attacked by a giant shark.”

Xiaoyun ChenSinan Li, and Sen Wang star in Chinese remake The Shallows.

What makes the film different from its American counterpart? The Arty Dans reveals, “Like the Chinese remake of Sharktopus that used the creature and military weapon concept but created an original story, this movie does the same – keeping the elements of the shark and the survival component but adding in a sci-fi twist about Artificial Intelligence and Virtual Reality.”


Devil’s Mouth

‘Abigail’

Freshly announced a couple months ago, Kathryn Newton (Abigail) and Lana Condor (To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before) will star in the shark survival thriller Devil’s Mouth.

It follows college friends on a trip to get to Thailand who get trapped in an underwater cave system with a bull shark. Old tensions and power struggles resurface as they fight to survive.

Jeff Wadlow (Truth or Dare, Kick-Ass 2) will direct and produce the horror movie alongside Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee of Thunder Road Films (John Wick, Sicario).

Aja Gabel (“Sunny”) and Myung Joh Wesner (“Star Wars: Skeleton Crew”) wrote the script, which was featured on the 2019 Black List, with revisions by Jeff Wadlow.

Amazon MGM Studios and Lionsgate are co-producing Devil’s Mouth.


Survive

Shiver shark - Survive

Sharks aren’t the only threat in Survive, a new shark attack thriller preemptively acquired by Amazon MGM Studios based on a feature pitch, we had learned earlier this summer.

Screenwriter Ian Levy (Pay the Ghost) will write the upcoming movie.

In Survive, “a desperate mother and her 12-year-old daughter attempt to flee from her abusive boyfriend. Their escape turns into a harrowing fight for survival after a highway crash leaves them stranded on a coastal cliff, battling not only the violent man they tried to escape but also a group of sharks circling in the waters below.”
