RALEIGH COUNTY, W.Va. (TCN) -- Authorities recently arrested a woman on suspicion of pulling out her child's teeth.
On June 19, Raleigh County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to the Lester area to a report of possible child abuse. Authorities allege Rebecca Bailey "pinned down her 5-year-old daughter" and pulled out two of her bottom front teeth.
Witnesses reportedly heard Bailey "yelling that the child 'had a demon in her' while holding a cross." A family member woke up, intervened, and stayed with the girl until authorities arrived.
A deputy arrested Bailey on a charge of child abuse resulting in injury. She remains held in the West Virginia Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
According to the sheriff's office, the child was taken into custody by a "responsible family member."
